SkyLink Emergency Dialer FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

padEmergency Dialer FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: What is an emergency dialer?
A: The Emergency Dialer allows you to call for help during emergency.  You can preset up to 9 different telephone numbers (including cellular phones, and pagers) that you want to call during emergency.  When you activate the dialer, the dialer will call these phone numbers by itself and play a pre-recorded message (up to 40 seconds) to notify the recipients of your emergency.
Q: Is the emergency dialer only suitable for senior citizens, or disabled?
A: No, this dialer is not only suitable for senior citizens or disabled, it is suitable for almost everybody.  This can be used at the hospitals and senior citizen centers as a medical device,  i.e. call for help for patients, elderly, disabled, and pregnant women.  The dialer is also ideal for jewelry shops, banks, convenience stores, gas stations since it can silently call for help without notifying anyone onsite.  You can also use the dialer in conjunction with the Skylink security system, whenever the security system is triggered, it will send a signal to the dialer automatically, and the dialer will start dialing out the preset phone numbers to all the recipients.
Q: How difficult is it to install the dialer? Do I have to hire someone else to install the unit for me?
A: It is very easy to install the dialer since it is designed to be a DIY product, therefore no special skills or knowledge is required.   All you need to do is to connect a phone line and an AC adapter to the dialer, and that is all.
Q: Do I have to sign up for monitoring service and how much is the monthly monitoring fee?
A: There is no monitoring fees!! Since you are monitored by yourself, the dialer will call for help in an emergency to all the preset phone numbers and there is no monitoring center.  Therefore, you do not have to pay for any monitoring fees.
Q: Whose phone numbers should I program into the dialer?
A: You can program any phone numbers (up to 32 digits) that you want to call during an emergency including long distance calls, cellular phones, pagers etc..  You can also send a numeric information to pagers.  Skylink recommends that the telephone, pager or cellular phone numbers of your relatives, neighbors, office/work, friends, doctor be programmed into your Dial-Alert.  Therefore, these people will be notified in case of an emergency. Do not program 911 into your Dial-Alert unless you have checked with your local authorities.  Otherwise, you may violate the law, and may result in a fine penalty.  After you program all the phone numbers, you should inform all the recipients that their phone numbers have been programmed into your dialer, so they know exactly what happen when they receive your emergency message.
Q: I have purchased a security system a while ago, I also signed up for the monitoring service which I have to pay $30.00 every month.  I would like to know whether it is possible to adapt the Skylink Emergency Dialer to my system so that I can save the monthly monitoring fee.
A: Yes, you can save all monitoring fees by installing the Skylink Emergency Dialer.   You can connect the emergency dialer to your existing security system using the Normally Closed Contact which is a standard feature for Skylink Emergency Dialer.  When your existing security system is triggered, it will automatically activate the dialer through the hardwire.   Therefore, it works exactly as a monitoring center, except you do not have to pay any monitoring fees.
Q: Is it possible to communicate with the recipient through the dialer (other than just playing a pre-recorded message)?
A: Yes, Skylink Model AD1010 allows the caller to actually talk to the recipient in case of an emergency.   There are 3 phone numbers that are designated for 2 way communication, plus 9 phone numbers for playing pre-recorded message only. You can also use the AD1010 as a speaker phone on a daily basis.  With a touch of a button on the remote (Model 4B434), you can remotely receive phone calls and dial out 3 direct access phone numbers.
